No one was prepared for what the COVID-19 pandemic brought upon the world. Social isolation highlighted the needs of vulnerable communities. Often women who are in abusive relationships are financially dependent on their abuser. Or, their abuser financially abuses them by limiting access to funds that they may have earned themselves. Through our research of over 100 families in 2020, women with children who were either escaping abuse or were no longer in the abusive environment but had a child for the abuser had more difficulty maintaining a job and accessing resources than a woman who was not abused or had a background of surviving abuse. The nation was aware of the shortage of baby formula between 2020 and 2021, but there was another challenge for mothers; diapers! In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, PLL expanded our “GWGYC!” campaign to include baby diapers. We also began servicing survivors nationally by shipping care packages to those in need. Please donate to our diaper bank so that we may make diapers for babies and toddlers a permanent item in our survivor care packages.
