A Survivor-Led Movement to Change Laws and Protect Lives

For far too long, legal loopholes have failed survivors of incestuous abuse. Aziza’s Law is a survivor-led legislative initiative that seeks to strengthen protections, hold abusers accountable, and close gaps in the law that allow predators to evade justice.

At Precious Little Ladies (PLL), we believe in advocating for laws that protect survivors, prevent abuse, and ensure justice.

PLL is committed to pushing for broader policy changes to safeguard children, survivors, and vulnerable communities.

What is Aziza’s Law?

Aziza’s Law (NJ Bill A4524) aims to:

– Criminalize incest regardless of the victim’s age to ensure survivors receive legal protection.

– Close legal loopholes that allow abusers to avoid prosecution.

– Strengthen penalties for incest offenders and provide justice for survivors.

The current law in nj.

Currently, incest is not a punishable crime if the victim is an adult. Incorporated into NJ 2C:14-2 (2024)-Sexual Assault, the law doesn’t account for grooming and coercion, which leaves victims and survivors 18 and over vulnerable. Aziza’s Law ensures that familial sexual abuse is recognized as a serious crime, regardless of the survivor’s age.

Why this matters.

– 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys experience sexual abuse before the age of 18, often by a family member.

– New Jersey is one of three states that lack strong legal protections for survivors of incestuous abuse.

– Laws need to evolve to consider the unique trauma, power dynamics, and psychological impact of incest.

Is Incest Legal in Other States?

Incest laws vary across the United States. Many states enforce strict criminal penalties, and others categorize incest as a misdemeanor. New Jersey and Rhode Island only criminalize incest between an adult and a minor, meaning adult survivors may have no legal recourse if incestuous abuse continues into their adulthood. Ohio only criminalizes incest between parent and child. Penalties in states where incest is illegal range from misdemeanors to serious felonies, creating inconsistency in how justice is served.

What are the legal consequences of incest in states where it is criminalized?

Some states with the strictest incest laws include:
🔹 Georgia & Tennessee – Incest is classified as a felony, carrying harsh sentences of up to 30 years in prison.
🔹 California & Florida – Both states explicitly criminalize incest regardless of the victim’s age, with penalties of up to 10 years in prison.
🔹 New York – Considers incest a serious felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison for aggravated offenses.
🔹 Texas – Not only criminalizes incest but also imposes lifetime sex offender registration for convicted offenders.

In contrast, states like New Jersey have loopholes that allow abusers to evade prosecution if the victim is over 18. Aziza’s Law seeks to change this by ensuring that incest is always recognized as a serious crime, regardless of age, and that survivors receive the legal protection they deserve.
